§ 106-97. Civil traffic infraction hearing officer.
The position of civil traffic infraction hearing officer ("hearing officer") is hereby established pursuant to the provisions of F.S. ch. 318.
(1)
Hearing officers shall be appointed by the chief judge and shall enter into a written agreement with the chief judge. The written agreement shall describe in general terms the duties of the hearing officer and shall set forth the rate of pay established by the chief judge pursuant to F.S. § 318.37.

In the event that a hearing officer cannot preside, a county judge shall hear the cases.

Applicants for the position of traffic hearing officer court shall be members in good standing of The Florida Bar and shall have completed a 40-hour education and training program which has been approved by the Florida Supreme Court. Thereafter, hearing officers shall complete an approved four-hour continuing education program annually.
