§ 110-320. Design standards.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Design standards for the construction of reclaimed water systems intended for dedication to, and ownership by, the county, shall conform to the requirements contained in the water-sewerage system criteria, as approved by resolution of the board.

    (b)

Irrigation systems. Irrigation systems using reclaimed water shall be permanently installed underground, or above-ground hose systems may be used if connected to the reclaimed water system using the non-standard hose bibbs which can only be operated with a special tool. Any such non-standard hose bibb and special tool shall be supplied by, or approved by, the department, consistent with the provision of the water-sanitary sewerage system criteria. All vaults, valves and outlets on reclaimed water systems shall be labeled to warn the public that the water is not safe for drinking.

    (c)

Sprayheads. All comon landscape irrigation sprayheads may be used with reclaimed water, except that within 100 feet from outdoor public eating, drinking and bathing facilities, low trajectory nozzles, or other means to minimize aerosol formation, shall be used. Variations from this standard may be approved on a case by case basis by the director or his designee, based on information submitted by the applicant that demonstrates that the alternative sprayheads will not cause overspray or excessive off-site aerosol drift.

    (d)

Backflow regulators. All potable water service connections to property served by a reclaimed water service line shall have a backflow prevention device approved by the potable water provider, to prevent the flow of reclaimed water into the potable water distribution system.

    (e)

Warning signs. Signs, denoting areas irrigated by reclaimed water, shall be posted in a conspicuous manner so as to notify people accessing the area that reclaimed water is being used for irrigation.
