§ 22-314. Administration and assignment of numbers.

  • (a)

    Brevard County Address Assignment shall be responsible for coordinating and maintaining the numbering system established by this article. Such department shall issue building numbers in conformity with the uniform numbering system established in section 22-313. Should an existing building have, exhibit or be addressed by a number in conflict with the uniform numbering system, Brevard County Address Assignment shall give notice to those owners or occupants whose building number is in conflict with the uniform numbering system. The notice shall be delivered to the owner and occupant by (a) certified mail, return receipt requested, or by (b) posting such notice in a conspicuous place on the building, or by (c) hand delivery. The notice shall include a notification of a change of address which shall contain the new building number assigned to the building in accordance with the provisions of this article and shall direct the owner or the occupant to post the newly assigned building number on the building or property in accordance with section 22-315 of this article.

    (b)

    Brevard County Address Assignment shall, upon the request of the property owners or their agents, assign a number to each unnumbered building located in the unincorporated area of the county, provided that subject property complies with all applicable laws, ordinances, etc. If a building has not been assigned a number pursuant to the uniform numbering system, the assignment by Brevard County Address Assignment, and posting by the owner or occupant of the assigned number shall be a condition precedent to the issuance of a building/construction department certificate of occupancy for any such building.

    (c)

    Fees shall be collected for the administrative cost of the assignment of property numbers per fee resolution.

    (d)

    The county, upon receipt of a final plat, shall assess the applicable addressing and street naming review fee. The county will collect the applicable fees. Brevard County Address Assignment will conduct their review and provide comments to the appropriate reviewing agency.

    (e)

    Brevard County Address Assignment shall duly record and keep records of all numbers assigned under this article.
