§ 34-41. Advisory committee.

  • (a)

    Establishment. The art in public places advisory committee (APPAC) shall be established to make recommendations to the board of county commissioners on the selection of works of applied art under the provisions of this article according to the provisions of this section.

    (b)

    Membership and qualifications. There shall be ten members appointed by the board of county commissioners to the art in public places advisory committee (APPAC). The APPAC shall be comprised of one representative appointed by each county commissioner and must be a representative in one of the following professional fields: art, architecture, landscape architecture, art history or architecture history; three representatives from the Brevard Cultural Alliance; a representative from the board of county commissioners or designee, and the county facilities director or designee.

    (c)

    Terms of appointment. Each member of the APPAC shall serve a one-year term. The representative or designee for the board of county commissioners shall serve a one-year term. There shall be no time limit for service imposed on the county facilities director or designee.

    (d)

    Responsibilities. The APPAC shall be responsible for reviewing and screening submissions of works of applied art and making recommendations to the board of county commissioners on selections of works of applied art according to the provisions of section 34-43. The APPAC shall be responsible for monitoring the need for maintenance and reviewing donations, purchases and loans of art works according to sections 34-44 and 34-45. The APPAC shall be responsible for establishing a deaccessioning policy that provides for removal, but not destruction of works of applied art that do not withstand the physical ravages or judgments of time and is sensitive to conservation of the county's permanent collection of art works obtained through the Brevard County Art in Public Places Program.
