§ 98-49. Firefighter support referendum.
4.01 The voters established the Fire Fighter Support Referendum in November 1998. The purpose of the referendum is to maintain a basic level of service for Brevard County. Those services are a minimum three persons on each fire engine; the purchase of four fire engines per year; the renovation or construction of two fire stations per year; and the funding of 60 fire fighter/paramedics and three field supervisors.
4.02 The voters approved the millage rate as 0.6431.
4.03 The revenues realized from the 0.6431 millage rate for fire service will be applied for fire protection services provided to all applicable incorporated as well as unincorporated real property in Brevard County provided by the Brevard County Fire Rescue Department.
4.04 Based on the current methodology of property use, the County will not assess unimproved parcels (vacant land and managed vacant agricultural properties) for the fire services special assessment. The financial burden of responding to fires at these properties will fall upon the Fire Fighter Support Referendum MSTU. Each previous year's costs for wildland/vacant land firefighting will be documented and added to the .6431 (Fire Fighter Support Referendum MSTU) in the amount necessary to recoup the expended funds.
