§ 202-179. Brevard economic development council authorized; membership; terms of office; appointment.

  • (a)

    There is hereby created a body corporate and politic to be known as the Brevard economic development council, hereinafter referred to as the "council," which shall be deemed to be a public corporation by that name which may contract and be contracted with and sue and be sued in all courts of law and equity. All members of the council shall serve at the pleasure of the board of county commissioners.

    (b)

    The council shall be appointed by the county commission and shall consist of one member from each county commission district in Brevard County, each county commissioner being entitled to select and appoint one member; one member recommended by the South Brevard Committee of 100 or its successor; one member recommended by the Cocoa Beach Area Committee of 100 or its successor; one member recommended by the North Brevard Development Commission or its successor; and one member recommended by the Brevard County Manufacturers Association or its successor. Said members of the council shall serve without salary. Each member appointed by the county commissioner of each district shall be appointed to serve during the term of the county commissioner who selects and appoints that member, or until said member's successor is selected and appointed. The members representing the committees of 100, the North Brevard Development Commission, and the Brevard County Manufacturers Association, or their successors, shall be appointed to serve three-year terms, beginning January 1 of each year, or until said member's successor is selected and appointed. Nothing herein shall be construed to prevent or prohibit any member of the council from succeeding himself if duly selected and appointed upon the termination of any term.
