§ 210-2. New construction to include water conservation devices.

  • (a)

    All new construction in Brevard County and its municipalities shall include water conservation devices.

    (1)

    Any new hotel, motel, apartment house, condominium, or single-family dwelling constructed in Brevard County or its municipalities shall have a water closet that uses no more than an average of 14 quarts of water per flush.

    (2)

    Additions to or renovations of existing hotels, motels, apartment houses, condominiums and single-family dwellings shall include such devices unless compliance with this section requires substantial modification of the existing plumbing system.

    (3)

    The Brevard County building director shall permit the installation of tank-type water closets equipped with devices which reduce the average water consumption to no more than 14 quarts of water per flush in water closets having a capacity of more than 14 quarts.

    (4)

    The Brevard County building director is authorized to review such products as meet the requirements of this section and the standard for adequate performance safety and sanitation. The building director shall annually publish a list of all products and model numbers which comply with the requirements of this section.

    (5)

    Any person or entity may supply the specifications of a product coming under this act to the building director for certification of compliance.

    (b)

    The building director may allow the use of standard flush toilets when, in his opinion, the configuration of the building drainage system requires a greater quantity of water to adequately flush the system.
