§ 42-78. Boundaries of emergency medical service benefit units.

  • (a)

    Zones for all ALS and BLS certificate holders shall be as follows:

    The Micco EMS benefit unit shall be within the following described area:

    (1)

    The Micco EMS benefit unit shall be from the Indian River County Line North along the west boundaries of Township 30, Range 38; thence along the northern boundary of Township 30, Range 38; thence south along the western shore of the Intracoastal Waterway to the Indian River County line; thence west along the southern boundary of Township 30, Range 38.

    (2)

    The county EMS benefit unit shall include all land north, west, and east of the Micco EMS benefit unit within the geographical area known as Brevard County.

    (b)

    The boundaries of the county emergency medical services municipal service benefit units are depicted on the map in Exhibit "A" which is attached to Ordinance No. 95-54 and incorporated in this article by reference. In the event of a conflict between the description in section 42-78 and the attached map, the map shall prevail.

    (c)

    All ALS and BLS providers possessing certificates for BLS/ALS shall respond to emergency calls only in the benefit unit designated by the board in the provider's certificate, unless the EMS provider is requested by the communication center to respond as a mutual aid unit. Any EMS provider possessing a certificate for ALS or BLS services may station its vehicles, on a contractual basis, in any EMS benefit unit at special functions or events where an accident or injury is likely to occur.

    (d)

    Any EMS provider that has in effect at the time of the enactment of this article a certificate from the board or a license from the state (issued pursuant to F.S. ch. 401 (as it may be revised or amended from time to time)) may continue to provide EMS without a new certificate from the board until its certificate or license expires. However, all ALS and BLS providers, unless specifically exempted by state or federal law, must comply with the rules and regulations promulgated pursuant to this article.
