§ 42-98. EMS services: Disasters/emergencies.

  • (a)

    In the event that any certificate holder for any reason or cause, shall cease or refuse to provide EMS service within any benefit unit or area designated to be serviced by the certificate holder within the county under such circumstances that there will be no EMS service or there is a reduction of the level of service for that benefit unit or designated area assigned to the certificate holder, the fire chief to the board shall have the authority to arrange for the provision of EMS services. The fire chief will utilize providers otherwise qualified under this article. Such provisions will remain in effect until the board is able to meet and take appropriate action to provide for EMS services in such benefit units.

    (b)

    Nothing contained in this section or this article shall be construed to limit the powers of the state or board to provide for EMS services during disasters or emergency situations as provided for in F.S. ch. 252 (and its respective revisions and amendments as may occur from time to time).
